Effect of Elastic Resistance Training and Vitamin D on Systemic Inflammation Indices in Untrained Men: A Clinical Trial
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Recent studies demonstrate the ability of vitamin D to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. Objectives: The current study aimed at examining the effect of vitamin D supplementation on systemic inflammation markers during an eight-week elastic resistance training (ERT) on untrained men. Materials and Methods: Forty healthy males with no experience in resistance training were assigned to elastic training—vitamin D (ED, n=10), elastic resistance training—placebo (EP, n=10), vitamin D (VD, n=10), and control (Con, n=10) groups. ERT was performed with eight exercises three times a week on non-consecutive days for eight weeks. Also, the subjects in the ED, VD, and EP groups consumed 50,000 IU vitamin D or placebo once every two weeks. Blood samples were collected before and 72 hours after the last session of eight weeks of ERT for measuring concentration of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), and C reactive protein (CRP). Results: It is found that ED elicited a significant reduction in IL6 than VD (p<0.05) and control (p<0.05). Also, there is a significant difference between EP group and VD (p<0.05) and control ones (p<0.05). However, there is no significant difference between ED and EP in the variables mentioned (p<0.05). Also, it was observed that there was no statistical significant alteration in CRP concentration between pre- and post-training (p>0.05). Conclusion: Finally, we can claim that the combination of elastic resistance training with vitamin D did not have extra advantages in attenuation of systemic inflammatory indices when compared with the training alone.

Possible Effect of Pilates Exercises and Vitamin D on Renal Function Parameters in Overweight Men: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background and Objectives: Obesity and vitamin D deficiency have been recognized as important risk factors for chronic kidney disease. The use of safe and low-risk non-pharmacological interventions is recommended to reduce and or prevent chronic diseases. The current study aimed to assess the effect of Pilates training and vitamin D on renal function parameters in overweight men. Methods: This...
full textTreatment of vitamin D deficiency with high-dose vitamin D supplementation and its effect on hematological indices in pregnancy: A secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial
Introduction: There are few studies regarding the treatment of vitamin D deficiency with a high dose of vitamin D and the comparison of serum vitamin D levels and hematological indices (Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, Platelet and Ferritin) in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on these hematological indices in pre...

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of vitamin D supplementation during progressive resistance training on insulin resistance, blood lipids and body fat percentage in T2D men with vitamin D deficiency. Methods: Forty-eight men with T2D participated in the study voluntarily and were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n=12) including, resistance training (RT), vi...
full textEffects of short term elastic resistance training on muscle mass and strength in untrained older adults: a randomized clinical trial
BACKGROUND The current recommendations on resistance training involving older adults have reported an improvement of body composition variables. Despite this, there is a lack of knowledge on how elastic resistance training (ERT) affects the muscle mass in older adults population. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a short-term ERT on muscle mass of health and untrained ol...
